André Kertész Museum in Szigetbecse

André Kertész lived in Budapest. He is the XX a century's outstanding photo artist who spent the summers in Szigetbecse at his uncles Klöpfer Mihály. He loved the village in all his life. He lived nearly 50 years in New York and died there in 1985 when he was 91 years old. His museum was opened on 30th May in 1987 in Szigetbecse. His personal belongings and his 120 signed pictures (present from the artist) got there. His world-famous pictures the neighbours, (1914) the Becsei Madonna (1920) and Szigetbecse (1984) are can be found here.

 

 1. The Dömsöd’s dead arm

 
The Dömsöd’s dead channel (Dömsödi Holtág) is the most untouched area around its neighbourhood. The flora and fauna offers numerous interesting sights for the visitors. To go around the area you should go by boat, by bicycle or if you really want to see everything go on foot

2. The Ráckeve market

 

One of the most beautiful regular open air markets in the country. The supply is huge from everything. Great crowd provides an excellent atmosphere. It opens on Wednesday and Saturday before noon.

3. The horse culture in Apaj

  
Apaj is a village in Kiskunság National Park (Kiskunsági Nemzeti Park). It lies in Pest county 50 km from Budapest. The colony was written down in 1200years. The Kiskunság State Farm was set up after the Second World War It developed very fast and became an independent village. The 1288 inhabitant average age is 32 years. The European fame Kiskunság Herdsman and horse days (Kiskunsági Pásztor és Lovasnapok) are organized in every year in the last week of July. It attracts thousands of visitors. The program acquaints the people with the beauty of the life of Hungarian puszta, the indigenous bread of animals and with horse-herder tradition.
